Glimpses from my Sketchbook

Posting some drawings from my sketchbook below.  The themes are random.  You'll see that sometimes I draw on glassine, and I've transferred these to my sketchbook.  I draw on glassine with graph paper or a handmade grid below.  And sometimes I just draw the grid on to the glassine or sketchbook.  The grid helps keep me disciplined, and allows me to see interesting details about perspective.  I had fun with the oil pastel landscapes.  Hope you enjoy!

Illustration Friday: Tattoo

The Union Jack I proudly bear Emblazoned in my bulldog hair. A tribute to a fearsome man: Dear Winston, 'twas your sturdy plan That broke the chains of tyranny. How I desire to honor thee.

IF: Trail

A few years ago, I did this pastel painting of this "watery trail:" the Intracoastal Waterway off the NC Coast. I love the IW, and those who are fortunate enough to have spent time boating on it know how it can draw you into its magic.

IF: Skyline

This is not exactly a skyline, but it is a view from far below the steeple of First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, SC . We had an exquisite trip there on a gorgeous April weekend -- lots of inspirational painting ideas. Sorry this is a late post this week!
